Joi White is a partner in the Intellectual Property Practice Group of Carr & Ferrell. Ms. White specializes in intellectual property law, with an emphasis on international and domestic trademark counseling and enforcement.
Ms. White counsels a wide range of businesses in managing their trademark portfolios, clearing new marks, developing and implementing enforcement strategies, and in navigating trademark and domain name disputes. Representative clients are in the fields of computer security software and appliances, e-commerce, consumer electronics, semiconductors, and telecommunications.
In addition, Ms. White works with a number of companies whose businesses are focused outside the high tech industry, such as clothing and cosmetics companies, wineries and restaurants, financial and health care service providers.
Prior to joining Carr & Ferrell, Ms. White worked at an Electronic Design Automation (EDA) company where she contributed to management of the trademark portfolio.
As 2012-2013 Chair of the Domain Disputes, Ownership & Whois Subcommittee of the Internet Committee of the International Trademark Association (INTA), Ms. White is responsible for guiding the committee reviewing and monitoring policies and laws impacting trademark owners’ ability to protect and enforce their marks online. In 2010, she served as an active member of the ICANN Registration Abuse Policies (RAP) Implementation Drafting Team, as a member of the Intellectual Property Constituency (IPC) and INTA. She routinely counsels and represents clients in domain name dispute proceedings and provides counseling and litigation support in keyword advertising disputes.
In the 2005 term, Ms. White supervised the Internet & Intellectual Property Justice Clinic as an adjunct faculty member at the University of San Francisco School of Law. Since 1998, Ms. White has served as a member of the High Tech Advisory Board at Santa Clara University School of Law, and has contributed to the steering of the school’s high tech program through her activities as a board member.
